Allard is Associate Professor in the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. His primary research interests are in social welfare policy, poverty, and nonprofit organizations. To better understand the contours of social service provision in the U.S., a sector with about $200 billion in annual expenditures, he recently completed two surveys of more than 2,000 governmental and nonprofit social service providers in seven urban and rural communities.
