Attrition and Fatigue
Good correlations were found between the pill ratings by the random tumble pill tester method and the wear performance of sweatshirts. Pilling during the wear tests was determined for three areas of the sweatshirt—front, back, and lower part of the sleeves. The best correlation was between the random tester ratings and the wear test ratings for the front of the sweatshirt. The polyester type, pill-resistant versus nonpill resistant, that was used had a significant effect on the pill resistance of rotor spun sweatshirts but little, if any, effect on the pill resistance of air-jet spun sweatshirts. Air- jet spun sweatshirts were 1.0-2.0 units more pill-resistant than their rotor spun coun terparts.
