Carbonylverbindungen lassen sich über ihre silylierten Enole mit SN1‐aktiven Alkylhalogeniden oder ‐acetaten in Gegenwart von Lewis‐Säuren glatt α‐alkylieren. Diese vorteilhafte Reaktion ist über die herkömmlichen Enolat‐Ionen oder deren Stickstoffanaloga kaum oder gar nicht möglich, da SN1‐aktive Alkylierungsmittel baselabil sind. Ein Paradebeispiel des neuen Verfahrens ist die direkte α‐tert‐Alkylierung von Aldehyden, Ketonen und Estern.
