THYROTOXICOSIS FOLLOWING ACUTE THYROIDITIS: A REPORT OF 5 CASES

THYROTOXICOSIS FOLLOWING ACUTE THYROIDITIS: A REPORT OF 5 CASES In a recent clinical note Sheets (1) described a patient in whom hyper-thyroidism followed acute thyroiditis. This coincidence was considered sufficiently unusual to warrant a case report. Barr (2) in a recent papersaid, “we have found no record to indicate that in … thyroiditis, Graves'disease … has been an attributable sequel.” Since it was my impression that I had seen several examples of this coincidence of syndromes, these two papers served as a stimulus for a search through clinical records ofthe past ten years for patients in whom thyroiditis was followed by hyperthyroidism within the course of one year. Abstract

In a recent clinical note Sheets (1) described a patient in whom hyper-thyroidism followed acute thyroiditis. This coincidence was considered sufficiently unusual to warrant a case report.
