The Ideal Approach to Esophageal Submucosal Tumor Is a Multidisciplinary Approach

The Ideal Approach to Esophageal Submucosal Tumor Is a Multidisciplinary Approach Esophageal submucosal tumors (SMT) are rare and commonly benign neoplasms of mesenchymal origin. Although, comprising a minority of esophageal tumors, these lesions present with unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Endoscopic techniques such as endoscopic mucosal resection and submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection are new and promising for the management of small and superficial lesions. However, surgical enucleation remains the gold standard for larger and more complex lesions. As both surgical and endoscopic techniques have advanced, a combined multidisciplinary approach is the favored method for management of these lesions. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Foregut: The Journal of the American Foregut Society SAGE

Abstract

Esophageal submucosal tumors (SMT) are rare and commonly benign neoplasms of mesenchymal origin.
