SCOPE OF THE ENQUIRY The loading patterns of some fourteen personality factors-those of largest variance-in adult men have been published previously and ten of them have been tolerably confirmed and clarified ti apart from whatever further confirmation results from scattered studies limited to one or two factors at a time.* Consequently the next objectives are (1) to discover h.ow these primary personality factors modify their patterns with such important circumstances as age, sex, cultural status, etc., and (2) to shift the measurement ctf the factors from ratings or question- naires to objective tests. This article is an initial attempt to map sex modification in the light of a study of 240 women, chosen to match in age and education the 133 men of the previous study.
