Haemoproteus stellaris n.sp., a haemoproteid with extremely large pigment granules arranged in a distinctive pattern, is described. Haemoproteus prognei Coatney and Roudabush, 1937 is redescribed. The statuses of Haemoproteus hirundinis (Sergent and Sergent, 1905) emend. Abstract

<jats:p> The haemoproteids of the family Hirundinidae are reviewed. Haemoproteus stellaris n.sp., a haemoproteid with extremely large pigment granules arranged in a distinctive pattern, is described. Haemoproteus prognei Coatney and Roudabush, 1937 is redescribed. The statuses of Haemoproteus hirundinis (Sergent and Sergent, 1905) emend.
