Administered the Protestant Ethic Scale as part of a large test battery to 333 undergraduates. 40 male and female Ss, of whom 20 had scored at least 1 standard deviation above the mean score on the Scale (high Protestant ethic group) and 20 had scored at least 1 standard deviation below that mean (low Protestant ethic group), were selected to participate in a repetitive task. Results show that the high Protestant ethic group spent significantly more time working on the task (p < .01) and produced significantly more output (p < .001). It is concluded that the type of work behavior studied is a component of the Protestant ethic personality variable.
