UNUSUAL HISTIOCYTIC REACTION TO LYMPH NODES I N LETTERER-SIWE DISEASE* N. G. B. McLETCHIE, M.D . The Institute of Pathology ofDalhousie University and the Government of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia This communication is prompted by the examination of lymph nodes in a case of Letterer-Siwe disease. The patient was a youth who reported to his doctor with a skin rash. Within 2 weeks he had generalized lymphadenopathy and severe toxemia and went rapidly downhill. The lymph-node pathology was clearly defined; the reacting cells were histiocytes and the morbid reaction was strictly sinus in origin. There were, however, some conspicuous features in the node hitherto not described, and in studying the literature some confusing issues were encountered. I t is proposed to describe the pathology of the lymph nodes in detail, and in the discourse to attempt to steer a rational path through the relevant literature. HISTORY OF CASE A 14-year-old male student was admitted to the hospital on September 26, 1950, com plaining of "swelling of glands."
