REDUCING METAL CONSUMPTION AND IMPROVING TUBE QUALITY ON THE 140 TUBE-PRODUCTION b~IT AT THE SINARSKII PIPE PLANT M. B. Bisk, E. A. Dervoed, D~C 621.771~28.004.18 and A. I. Borodin Since January of 1976 the Sinarskii Pipe Plant (SPP) has operated a 140 tube-production unit with a semicontinuous "Tandem" reeling machine. During the planning of this unit, at the initiative of the plant, plant workers and workers from the Elektrostal' heavy machinery plant in 1973 developed new designs of piercing mill and reeling machine which were subse- quently also adopted for the 140 unit at the K. Libknekht plant. The designs differ as follows from the similar equipment installed earlier at the Chelyabinsk Pipe Plant. i. At the suggestion of SPP and Elektrostal' workers, the individual bearings for the roll shafts and rolls and the separate adjusting screws found on conventional piercing and reeling units were replaced by a common bearing and a single screw to ensure stable optimum shell diameters in the deformation zone and thus better wall thickness. The provision of a cover for the unit which can be thrown back by a hydraulic cylinder cuts roll-changing time and improves working conditions. 2. At the suggestion of SPP
