Developmental and regional variations in ribonuclease inhibitor activity in brain (Receiued 30 March 1970. Aecepfed 7 April 1970) INTHIS laboratory the RNase inhibitor in the brain tissue has been studied for several years. Recent results indicated that the addition of RNase inhibitor to the preparation medium stabilized brain MASE polysomes (TAKAHASHI, and SUGANO, 1966) and nuclear RNA of high molecular weight (TAKAHASHI, Y.,unpublished). The RNase inhibitor has been purified from pig brain cortex ~ A K A H A S H I ,MASE and SUZUKI,9 7 . In view of the importance of the RNase inhibitor in RNA 16) metabolism, it was attempted to study the regional and developmental changes of RNase-inhibitor activity in the brain. This work is presented here. METHODS A N D MATERIALS Materials. Rats were used as experimental animals and for the study of the developing brain, for the study of the regional distribution of RNase inhibitor, adult rabbits (25-3.0 kg) were used. RNA (Nutritional Biochemicals Corp.) was purified by the modified method of Kirby (KIRBY,) 15 . 96 RNase was obtained from Sigma (five times crystallized). All other reagents were of analytical grade. Methodr.
