Methane-negative ion chemical ionization mass spectra were obtained for C14BPE and dichloropropyltrichlorohexylethers. Molecular ions M were not observed, but interestingly, significant signals derived from the molecular ion occurred at m/z = M+C1 and m/z = M - C 1 for all compounds except bis-(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl)ether, which only produced the (M + C1)- ion cluster. The elemental composition of the fragment ions of each compound was determined by accurate mass measurement (GC/high-resolution MS) at 10000 mass resolution. On the basis of these GC/MS results, structures were assigned to components 1 - 8 (see Fig. 2) and verified by compari- S. Franke, S. Hildebrandt, and W.
