Comparison of measures for the estimation of clustering in free recall

Comparison of measures for the estimation of clustering in free recall Examines recently developed measures of clustering in free recall and shows them to vary with characteristics of recall unrelated to relative amounts of clustering. Previous measures were shown to vary with factors, E.g., number of categories recalled, the distribution of the total items recalled across categories, and total number of items recalled. For these reasons, comparisons between and within ss, as well as comparisons between experiments, are difficult. An adjusted ratio of clustering measure, which does not vary with irrelevant characteristics of recall, is proposed. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Psychological Bulletin American Psychological Association

Abstract

Examines recently developed measures of clustering in free recall and shows them to vary with characteristics of recall unrelated to relative amounts of clustering.
