ASIANS IN SCIENCE ASIANS IN SCIENCE U AWARD-WINNING AND FINALIST ABSTRACTS FROM THE 69TH SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS OF THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION NEW ORLEANS, LA, USA NOVEMBER 70- 13, 7996 This issue’s Asians in Science section of theAsian Cai-diovascirlai- & 77zoracicAniznls focuses on the American Heart Association’s 69th Scientific Sessions, held in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, on November 10-13,1996. Due to the overwhelming number of abstracts presented, all of the AsidPacific authors-numbering over 300-could not be presented in this issue. The following pages include only the award-winning and award-finalist Asian abstracts from the sessions. Approximately 34,000 people attended the meeting, one-fourth of whom came from outside the United States. Approximately 1600 registrants from the AdPacific region attended the meet- ing, representing about 19% of the total foreign attendees. Nearly 7% of the approximately4,360presentations were written in all or in part by AsidPacific authors.
