Designs Maurice Kendall, who died in 1983, first published the beginnings Partially Balanced Incomplete Block Designs of this material in 1943. The first edition of the three-volume Additional Topics in Block Designs version, which probably is familiar to many statisticians, was pub- lished in 1958, and a fourth edition of Volume 1 appeared in 1977.
