He served as the president of the American College of Surgeons (2009–2010), the Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (1991–1992), Society of Clinical Surgery (1990–1991), Bal- timore Academy of Surgery (1985–1986), Society of Surgical Chairs (1994–1996), the Southern Surgical Association (1995–1996), the Halsted Society (1997–1998), and the American Surgical Associa- 2–5 tion (2000–2001). Cameron had a profound impact on the development of the field of pancreatic surgery; in particular, refining the pancreatico- duodenctomy to make it a safe procedure. Concurrently, he trained an entire generation of surgeons in hepato-panctreao-biliary surgery.
