Redesigning technology integration into world language education INTRODUCTIONSince 2015, the Language Flagship Technology Innovation Center (Tech Center; http://lftic.lll.hawaii.edu/) has embarked on a mission to redesign technology integration and use in The Language Flagship program (http://www.thelanguageflagship.org). To achieve this goal, the Tech Center uses a design thinking approach reminiscent of the evolutionary process used by this program. This article provides a brief overview of innovation in The Language Flagship, then presents groundwork concepts of design thinking and illustrates how those concepts inform Tech Center efforts, which are expected to result in innovative approaches to technology integration in world language education (WLE). One hopes that this story of systemic improvement through design thinking will inspire similar efforts in WLE and thus help foster a culture of innovation in the profession.A PATH TO INNOVATIONThe Language Flagship initiative is a network of proficiency‐based programs that extends across 21 U.S. institutions of higher education. Its primary goal is to produce global professionals in various disciplines who achieve an advanced level of language proficiency (ILR 3 or ACTFL Superior; http://www.govtilr.org; ACTFL, ). Established in 2002, The Language Flagship is a relatively young initiative that has continually introduced and incentivized effective innovations in WLE.
