In The Psychology of Social and Cultural Diversity , Richard Crisp has compiled an edited volume analyzing the psychological effects of experiencing social and cultural diversity. As a whole, the book provides readers with a thorough overview of contemporary theory and research with suggestions for practical interventions in education, organizations, and government policy. Thirteen original chapters comprise six sections, each highlighting a particular theme. The first three chapters examine diversity and social identity. Brewer reviews social identity complexity theory and its connections to accepting diversity among one's social groups. Amiot and Sablonnière present a model of multiple social identity integration as experienced by immigrants, with a focus on Quebec. Shih, Sanchez, and Ho examine the social and cognitive effects of switching among social identities and conclude that having multiple identity options is mostly beneficial. Next, two chapters examine the self‐concept from a cross‐cultural perspective.
