I shall step down from the position of Editor‐in‐Chief for the journal Genes to Cells at the end of March 2018. The journal was founded by the late Professor Jun‐ichi Tomizawa in 1996, as the organ journal of the Molecular Biology Society of Japan. At this occasion, I wish to express my sincerest gratitude to all members of the past and present Editors, Editorial staffs, and to the Society for the support to the journal during my 12‐year term of the position. I hope that the journal will continue to play an important role by publishing various forms of articles in the broad research areas covered by Genes to Cells. Professor Eisuke Nishida (Kyoto University) kindly agreed to take the position of Editor‐in‐Chief, and I wish that the journal will continue to flourish.
