An update from JAN' s Editor‐in‐Chief

An update from JAN' s Editor‐in‐Chief It was this time last year that I introduced myself as JAN 's new Editor‐in‐Chief (41, 1, 1–3). The ‘watch words’ for JAN I suggested then – quality, relevance, impact – have proved very helpful in directing the work and the thinking of the Editorial Team over the past year. A busy and productive year it has been! • Manuscript Central now up and running Submission, reviewing, revision, editing and proofreading of manuscripts is now all on‐line through Manuscript Central. This makes the whole process more efficient and streamlined – and much faster, cutting the time taken for decisions to be made about papers and conveyed to authors, and then moving papers into production to meet our target of publication within 6 months of acceptance of a fully‐finalised manuscript. Authors can log onto Manuscript Central to check the progress of their paper. Reviewers can maintain the quality of reviewing by receiving feedback from reading each others’ submitted reports. And, for the editors, the regular couriered bags from the JAN office are coming to an end and, instead, new manuscripts are moved around (and, indeed, around the world) by the instant and paper‐less medium of e‐mail. Abstract

It was this time last year that I introduced myself as JAN 's new Editor‐in‐Chief (41, 1, 1–3).
