Abstracts for the IXth World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics, Saint Louis, Missouri

Abstracts for the IXth World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics, Saint Louis, Missouri
INTRODUCTION
This World Congress represents the 9th in a series of international meetings which are now hosted by the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics. Since its formal organization in 1992 the Society has promoted the ethical investigation of genetic factors which contribute to the origins, course and treatment of psychiatric disorders. The Society has taken a broad view of what may contribute to these goals by encompassing areas of interest from basic neurobiology, model systems and population genetics to human genetic linkage and association, bioinformatics and statistical genetics. The last year has seen major advancements in many of these associated areas, including most notably the publication of the initial drafts of the human genomic DNA sequence. The theme of the 2001 World Congress is on the potential interface of the growing field of psychiatric genetics with new findings and approaches from the areas of genome sequencing projects, development, neurobiology and population/evolutionary biology. This includes a number of plenary speakers who are leaders in their respective fields. This congress also introduces a new feature to the meetings in the form of technical workshops occurring on the first day. Workshops for this year cover the areas of bioinformatics and high http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png American Journal of Medical Genetics Part A Wiley
