It offers an excellent starting point for anyone interested in understanding the varieties of the company town in the Western Hemisphere. Those already familiar with the subject will find the book valuable as well, as the geographic breadth of the case studies stimulates thinking across national borders and the variety of concerns that individual scholars have about life in the company town motivates new ways of thinking about these entities.
