In summary, Jim Stanley has written a much needed compendium of information with background and references for the Texas Hill Country. Essentially, it is a practical restoration guide book; it has value outside of Texas because of the method for good stewardship that is described--the specifics depend on the land form and its ecological condition. If this book becomes widely used and the land use suggestions practiced, both native wildlife and human inhabitants should benefit from the better land stewardship that will result.
