Fitzgerald’s Reconstruction in Alabama is a comprehensive examination of the political factions and economic forces that shaped Reconstruction in Alabama. The author successfully marshals historical evidence to show the correlation between economic instability and political violence. He also demonstrates that, at particular moments during Reconstruction, whites and blacks worked alongside one another to achieve certain objectives.
