J. V. Brummels Favorite Foods So after his last meal the drunk with the busted hip is pulling on his jug. He pulls open the nightstand drawer, pulls out the wrong pills, tosses them back like big spermatozoa, and they kill him, the kind of suicide all us addicts are working toward. But I'm sober at three-thirty on a Tuesday afternoon when Liz finds me in the city and asks me to help her roommate change the tire on her pickup, flat because Cassie drove over a curb she didn't think was there. But when we arrive some college boys are already doing the helping instead of me, and the world's balanced, and the biology of three strong young men and Liz and Cassie and their friend is clear enough to me even sober that I go back about my business. It's not my business but a tightlipped man I know might be seducing a married woman. Maybe I ought to say something for the sake of her child but other than wrecking her home 152 I believe his intentions are honorable. I don't know anything for sure, but I put it down to a streak of wanderlust
