Reconstructing Individualism: A Pragmatic Tradition from Emerson to Ellison by James M. Albrecht... consistent with the view I argue for, but it is not exactly what I argued for, thus turning Glover into an interpreter who has increased our understanding of the object of his interpretation. This brings me to the closing statements of Glover's review. He points out that "the book is perhaps best seen as a detailed and coherent road map, one designed to provide a sense of the issues involved in the artistic interpretation of literature and to offer some tools for navigating them" (112). Indeed, this is what the book is all about, and also what Glover's review itself exemplifies. Just like Painting Borges, his review seems to aim at a, if not necessarily the, fundamental hermeneutic goal of interpretation, namely, a greater understanding of the object of interpretation.
