Two Poems N I k OLA M A dz IROV home I lived at the edge of the t own like a streetlamp whose light b ulb no one ever replaces. Cobwebs held the walls toget her, and sweat bound our clasped ha nds. I hid my teddy bea r in holes in crudely built stone wa lls saving him from dreams. Day and night I made the threshold come a live returning like a bee t hat always goes back to the previous flo wer. It was a time of peace when I left home: the bitten apple was not brui sed, on the letter a stamp with an old abandoned house. From birth I’ve migrated to quiet p laces and voids have hovered beneat h me like snow that doesn’t know if it be longs to the earth or to the air. Translation from Macedonian by Peggy and Graham W.
