Christian Women in Chinese Society: The Anglican Story is important in that it makes more Chinese Christian women and their contributions known to a wider audience, and perhaps also contributes to the view within the Anglican Church. Although the perspective of this book is intended to be rather narrowly Anglican, it still would have fared better with a more comparative perspective, also clearly situating the Anglican Church among other denominations in China, geographically, in numbers, influence, economy, etc. Further reflection on similar women’s experiences in other Christian circles would have added depth and complexion to what is portrayed. The lack of wider perspective makes this volume more a book for a narrower circle of church or mission historians, and more difficult to access for the wider circle of China historians, which http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png China Review International University of Hawai'I Press
