A Sacred Mango HA JIN We gathered in front of our City H all exploding firecrackers and beating drums and g ongs. o Th usands of people came over to receive a gift for our city from Chairman M ao. It was a golden mango carried by a big t ruck accompanied by three other tr ucks, all of which were planted with color ful flags and loaded with golden chrysanthemums. e m Th ango was exhibited in the center of the h all. We lined up to look a t it and to show our gratitude and respect. But that nig ht some curious child tasted the f ruit and was not caug ht. Our mayor, frightened and outraged , said, “Damn it, if I knew which son of a rabbit bit the m ango I would turn his whole fa mily into counter-revolutionaries!” But what could we do?
