Comment & Chronicle COMME CHRON The University of California, Berkeley, will host a conference from 29 November to 2 December 2001 in celebration of the Verdi centenary. "Primal Scenes: Staging and Interpreting Verdi's Operas" will focus intensively on a small number of Verdi scenes using a wide range of critical approaches, with an emphasis on interactions between music and staging. Within the studies of the work and life of Ludwig van Beethoven, the periodical Beethoven Forum (formerly published by the University of Nebraska Press) is now in transformation under the stewardship of the University of Illinois Press. The editors of this annual are pleased to announce that it will resume publication as a semiannual in the next year, with essays by James Parsons, Hartmuth Kinzler, Hans-Werner Küthen, among others, including several book reviews.
