To assess liver output and peripheral clearance the ketics of VLDL-TG were determed by a constant iv fusion of [ 2-3H]glycerol-labeled VLDL. Clearance of VLDL-TG was also evaluated by measurg activities of lipoprote lipase (LPL) heart, soleus muscle, and adipose tissue from fasted control, fasted E. coli-treated, fed control, and fed E. coli-treated . Lewis bred , 275-300 g, were made with 8 x lo7 live E. coli colonies per 100 g body wt. Twenty-four hours after E. coli jection, serum TG, free fatty acids (FFA), and cholesterol of fasted E. coli-treated were elevated by 170, 76, and 16%, respectively. The elevation of serum TG may be attributed to the 67% decrease clearance rate of VLDL-TG fasted E. coli-treated compared with their fasted controls. The suppressed activities of LPL adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and heart were consistent with reduced clearance of TG.
