These were sensitive to blockade of thromboxane receptors (using lo-” M L 670,596); the mechanical respse was insensitive to 3 x 10s8 M atropine, 10d7 M nitrendipine, or exposure to Ca’+-free media [(ctaining 0.5 mM ethylene glycol-bis(P-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N’,N’-tetraacetic acid (EGTA)]. U6619 also potentiated electrical field stimulati-elicited ctractis and excitatory juncti potentials without altering the sensitivity to carbachol. This potentiati was also sensitive to L 670,596 but not to blockade of adrenoceptors (using phentolamine plus propanolol). We cclude that al ASM possesses both prejunctial and postjunctial thromboxane receptors. The former potentiate cholinergic neurotransmissi through a mechanism not involving adrenoceptors.
