While several extensive works have appeared during the past IO years or more (133, 178, 195, 182, 7), many recent reviews have appropriately included only one specialphase of auxin investigation such as ‘mechanismof action’ (6), ‘cell enlargement’ (rgd), ‘tropisms’ (ITS), etc. Others have dealt with several more or less related aspectsof auxin which the writers have consideredto offer ‘particular progress’ (I 5) or specialapplication (x52). In the present review it is intended to refer to such comprehensivecoverage where necessary,and to concentrate on those aspectsof the broad subject which have not been previously reviewed in detail. Since practically all auxin effects are physiological, however, it is desirable to emphasizechiefly those effects involving native auxin which occur in the course of natural growth and development.
