An analytic formula metabolic to instantaneously system determine total rate for the human LARRY Martin M. HUNT Marietta Corporation, Denver, Colorado 80201 HUNT, LARRY M. An analytic formula total metabolic rate for the human to instantaneously determine system. J. Appl. Physiol. 27(5) : 73 I- 733. 1969.-An analytic formula to determine the instantaneous total human metabolic rate is derived as a function of measurable combustion products, total produced, 02 consumed, and an introduced variable q. This formula simplifies to the Lusk equation when q is set equal to zero. Using this equation enables one to determine precisely the error bounds and to minimize the possible error. Thus it is an improvement upon the Lusk equation, since the regions of possible error are evident and an improvement in accuracy is possible. Lusk equation; combustion products THE MAIN OBJECTIVE is to derive an analytic formula which uses knowledge of the products of combustion to determine the instantaneous metabolic rate for the total human system. Since the products of combustion must completely determine the metabolic rate, and the metabolic rate is required instantaneously instead of a time average, it follows that the indices of the metabolic rate, the products of combustion,
