KANEKO Medicine, Universitl: 4 ESPIRATION DATA following the injection of C14-labeled compounds have proved valuable in the study of the comparative C metabolism of normal (I) and ketotic (2) cows and of mice, rats, rabbits and guinea pigs (3). This paper describes a respiration apparatus which was designed originally for trials with sheep at high altitude. It accomplished all the essential functions of the large animal respiration apparatus described earlier by Kleiber and Edick (4). In addition, two special features are noteworthy: it can be adapted for large or small animals and it is mobile. Respiration mask. The mask which was used for Cl4 respiration trials with sheep was similar in design to that described earlier for cows by Kleiber and Edick (4). Respiration chamber. The respiration chamber for dogs was fashioned from a war surplus cast-iron pressure chamber (45 cm long x 30 cm wide x 30 cm high). A thermometer was taped to the inside of the viewing window, W.
