Teaching the social component in Medicine
Abstract
People who have suffered a hearing loss tend to speak indistinct ly, their words are slurred and their voices sound thick. They should be referred to a speech training clinic and the habit corrected, Those who do not get full hearing when using an aid should be encouraged to learn lip reading, Children who are born deaf should be registered at an early age with a training institution and parents shculd seek information and instruction about preliminary speech training so that by the time the child is old enough to attend school his training is well advanced. Too often we find ourselves irritated by a deaf person and we should remember that the handicap of deafness can be lightened by the sympathetic attitude of hearing people. N. FA I'I1WuRT.
