To live a com- peter Johnson pletely ruleless life is, the story suggests, to lack law, and, hence, justice. Polyphemus' isolation also means unsociableness, an ignorance of those HOBBES O N HUMAN qualities of hospitality and neighbourliness which go beyond a system of codified law.
