China Journal of aCC ounting StudieS , 2016 Vol . 4, no . 1, 106 http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/21697213.2016.1144973 The Editors We are pleased to announce that the 2015 CJAS best paper award goes to Political ranks, incentives and firm performance, by Shangkun Liang of the Central University of Finance and Economics, Zhen Li of the National University of Singapore, Donghua Chen of Nanjing University, and Shimin Chen of China Europe International Business School. The paper was published in China Journal of Accounting Studies, Vol. 3, No. 2, 2015, pp. 87–108. In this paper, the authors find that the higher the political rank of a firm’s manager, the better the firm performs. The authors further find that a manager’s cash compensation does not increase with their political rank, suggesting that polit- ical rank provides incentives in addition to cash compensation. This paper provides empirical evidence of the incentive effect of managers’ political ranks on firm performance, and also helps us understand China’s economic growth from a micro perspective. The paper was selected by the journal’s editorial team against the following criteria: originality, rigour, relevance and quality of exposition. Many congratulations to Dr Shangkun Liang, Zhen Li, Donghua Chen and Shimin Chen for this award. © 2016 a ccounting Society of China
