The synthesis of CdS incorporated mesoporous anatase TiO2 beads is reported in this work. The mesoporous structure, crystalline structure, morphology and optical properties of the CdS incorporated mesoporous anatase TiO2 beads were studied by X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption isotherm, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and UV–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity and stability were evaluated by photocatalytic hydrogen evolution under visible irradiation and simulated solar irradiation. In addition, the photocatalytic activity of CdS on active support (TiO2) and inert support (SiO2) were directly compared to elucidate the roles of supports in CdS based nanocomposites.
