Valproic acid Reactions 1680, p328 - 2 Dec 2017 Urine incontinence: 4 case reports In a case series, four children (two boys and two girls) aged 2.5 11 years were described, who developed urine incontinence during treatment with valproic acid [routes not stated]. All the four children started receiving treatment with valproic acid at a dose of 15 33 mg/kg/day for generalised tonic-clonic seizures (3 children) or symptomatic focal epilepsy (1 child). However, one of the four children immediately developed urinary incontinence, while the other three children developed urinary incontinence after receiving the therapy for ten days two months. Consequently, the treatment with valproic acid was discontinued in all the four children, and subsequent resolution of urinary incontinence was noted. Author comment: "All our cases scored a total of 6 points [as per Noranjo adverse drug probability scale].
