MARINE HYDROPHYSICAL INSTITUTE (founded in 1929; in the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences since 1961)* PRINCIPAL SCIENTIFIC RESULTS Physics of the Ocean The works of the Marine Hydrophysical Institute in the field of physics of the ocean represent a fundamental contribution to the development of contemporary geophysical hydrodynamics, theory of climate and, first of all, climate of the ocean, study of small-scale and large-scale hydrodynamical and hydrophysical processes in the ocean, including the processes of interaction between the ocean and atmosphere, surface and internal waves, optical, electromagnetic, and acoustic properties of ma- rine media, and the transfer of energy and various substances in the ocean.
