However, this made brighter and more meaningful the happy periods of his arduous life that were marked with outstanding scientific achievements and the victo- ries not only in the struggle with fascism, but also in the battle with obscurantism in science, in the struggle for the freedom of thought and for truth. This selfless toil bore glorious fruits, the prime of which was the founda- tion and strengthening of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics during a difficult period of the 1960s and bril- liant scientific insights—conduction of a tremendous experiment on animal domestication, which formed the basis for an original concept of the destabilizing factors of natural selection. Dmitry Konstantinovich was born on July 17, 1917 in the family of a rural priest in the village of Protasovo, Kostroma province.
