Virology Division News 1035 Arch Virol 143/5 (1998) Virology Division News VDN The Statutes of the International Committee on Virus Taxonomy (ICTV) (The Statutes of the ICTV printed below were revised at a Meeting of the Executive Committee of the ICTV at the National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, USA, in April 1955, and were ratified subsequently by postal ballot of the full membership of the ICTV. A further revision of the Statutes is in progress and after ratification any amendment will be published in Virology Division News and in the 7th Report of the ICTV, prior to the International Congress of Virology in Sydney in August 1999). Article 1 Official name 1. The official name will be International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). Article 2 Status 1. The ICTV is a Committee of the Virology Division of the International Union of Microbiology Societies (IUMS). Article 3 Objectives 1. To develop an internationally agreed taxonomy for viruses. 2. To establish internationally agreed names for virus taxa, virus species and subviral agents. 3.
