All abstracts were peer-reviewed by numerous academic, community member, and student reviewers. We were pleased that the conference was held, again, in Toronto as the Interna tional Society for Urban Health had its start at the First International Conference on Inner City Health in Toronto in 2001. The theme for the Fourth International Conference, 'Achieving Social Justice in Urban Communities', reflects the urgent need to remedy long-standing global injustices including growing urban poverty and inequality, depleted and decaying social and public infrastructure in urban areas, and increasing health vulnerabilities such as the threat and spread of infectious diseases.
