He was a visiting researcher in bio- chemical genetics in Princeton University (United States) from 1966 to 1967; taught in Humboldt Univer- sity of Berlin (1973) and University of Pennsylvania (United States, 1975, Fulbright–Hays Program); worked as an associate professor in University of Chi- cago (1994); and participated in researches in Pasteur University (Paris, France, 1981), Warwick University (Coventry, United Kingdom, 1985, a UNESCO grant), University of Michigan (United States, 1992), Univer- sity of Washington (Sent Luis, United States, 1994), Institute of Genetics of Brownschweig University (Ger- many, 1997), and University of Wales (Swansea, United Kingdom, 1996 and 1998). Shestakov partici- pated in international research projects supported by the National Science Foundation of the United States; Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology of the Federal Republic of Germany; Volkswagen Foundation; Britain Royal Society; INTAS; Human Frontier; etc. Shestakov was always actively involved in manage- ment of science.
