Original Russian Text Copyright C 2002 by the Editorial Board. ˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝ ANNIVERSARIES ˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝˝ (on 70th Anniversary of His Birthday) On December 1, 2002, Sergei Stepanovich Ivan- chev, one of the leading polymer scientists, doctor of chemical science, professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Scientist and Technologist of the Russian Federation, winner of the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, awardee of the Academician Kargin Award, and direc- tor of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Boreskov Insti- tute of Catalysis, Siberian Division, Russian Academy of Sciences, is 70. S.S. Ivanchev started his scientific and pedagogical activities at Lvov State University and continued these activities at Mechnikov State University in Odessa, where he defended his doctoral dissertation and made a career, from docent, acting head of a chair, to dean of the chemical faculty. In the 1970s, Ivanchev headed a department of exploratory research, organized by him at Plastpolimer Okhta Research and Production Association (St. Petersburg), where he was the first deputy general director for research from
