To that end, Graham, MacArthur, and Fitzgerald have brought together 15 chapters on subjects as diverse as spelling instruction to methods for teaching students with learning disabilities. With an introduction by the editors, the book is organized in three parts, each with a different focus: designing writing programs, strategies for teaching and learning, and special populations. Common to each of the sections is a concern for not only the global issues of writing such as awareness of audience, genre familiarity, and the social nature of writing, but also the need to promote higher order thinking among students in K-12 instructional settings.
