Rheo-Engineering Properties of Mixed SiO2/Al2O3 Suspensions and Related Materials. III. The Fused... A corundum suspension at pH = 7 with a 58% volume concentration of the solid phase and a molding porosity of 20% is prepared. The properties of fused quartz + fused corundum mixed suspensions are studied. Based on a mixed binder of composition 50% SiO2 + 50% Al2O3 and a fused quartz filler, a castable is prepared which, heat treated at 1150°C, exhibited the following properties: open porosity — 13%, compressive — 80 MPa, temperature for strain onset under loading — 1250°C, thermal stability — 10 heat-cool cycles (1000°C – water).
