HISTORY OF CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY Professor Nikolai Nikolaevich Baraboshkin (To 125th Anniversary of His Birthday) Nikolai Nikolaevich Baraboshkin is widely known as one of founders of the domestic platinum industry. He also made a major contribution to the organization of higher-school metallurgical education in Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg) and to the development of a number of branches of nonferrous metallurgy in the Urals. N.N. Baraboshkin was born on October 24 (No- vember 6), 1880. He descended from peasants of Moscow province. Having finished a village school, he educated at nonclassical secondary schools at towns of Syzran’ and Samara. In 1899, he finished his sec- ondary education and entered the Mining Institute in St. Petersburg. In view of the financial difficulties and the necessity to maintain his family, his education at the institute was prolonged and repeatedly inter- rupted, and was complete only in April 1915.
