Primary hydatidosis of the peripheral muscles: treatment by surgery and chemotherapy

Primary hydatidosis of the peripheral muscles: treatment by surgery and chemotherapy We presesnt a case report of a patient with a rare parasitic disease in the posterior compartment of his left thigh. The only pathological finding in the physical examination was local swelling. The diagnosis was based upon sonography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and excisional biopsy of the lesion. The patient was treated by surgical excision and chemotherapy with albendazole. At 6 months after surgery, no pathological findings were detected, either clinically or radiologically. According to the literature and to our observations, albendazole following excision is the treatment of choice to prevent recurrence of this condition.
